The Difference #65 Mixed by Mr. Sonny James
December 30, 2011 12:06 AM PST
Mr. Sonny James has been on the road much of the year from Europe to Africa and across the U.S. He's back with this live mix recorded in December of 2011 in Philadelphia at his residency at The Walnut Room. Expect to hear current and classic tunes in multiple genres. Dancefloor business. The Difference #64 ft. DJ Manuvers
November 16, 2011 02:24 PM PST
Francisco "Pancho" de Pablo, aka DJ Manuvers, started DJing at the age of 13. What started as a hobby (and excuse to go to parties) became an instrumental part in developing his love for music. In 1999, he officially began his journey into producing. Manuvers made the natural progression from DJ to producer. The evolution went from the man behind the turntables to the man making the music being played on them. In 2000 he started college radio on FIU's 88.1 FM with a show called "Funknotix" Friday Nights, which ran for about 5 years. In 2001, Manuvers became part owner of the now defunct Counterflow Recordings Record label, while also releasing music as a solo artist with the Bontanica del Jibaro imprint. Releasing over 50 titles Counterflow Recordings became critically acclaimed label known for its quality in music, as well as worldwide recognition for art direction. ---Playlist--- SIDE A

Sol Power is a bi-monthly event that takes place at Eighteenth Street Lounge in Washington DC featuring the musical stylings of DJ Stylus, Meistro, Deep Sang and Hermon Farahi on percussion also known as The Sol Power Allstars. The following mix for this episode of The Difference was recorded live at Sol Power. These guys know how to throw down. Bio-
A mutual love for the sounds of the African diaspora was the spark for the crew coming together. The Sol Power selection arsenal draws from samba, salsa, afrobeat, cumbia and other deeply rooted genres as well as their modern electronic versions. Whether it’s a classic Dominican merengue or a driving afro-latin deep house track, Hermon Farahi’s expansive vocabulary of rhythms on percussion binds it all together. The Sol Power All-Stars were in monthly residence from 2009 through 2010 in the bustling Adams Morgan nightlife district of Washington DC and also put together a day long block party to bring Sol Power to an all-ages audience. In November of 2010 the crew moved on to their current residency at the world famous Eighteenth Street Lounge. ---Playlist--- 01...Mofongo (Album mix)...Sven Van Hees

Shaina “SUGA SHAY” Robinson has been an avid radio addict since as far back as she can remember, and when she first got her hands on the internet, she immediately started downloading music. After she learned she could make her own, she dove headfirst into Logic Pro and met Producer Melvin “Chaos” Lewis (of Noizetrip), who also introduced her to the world of DJing. She was first introduced to the Philly club scene through DJ PHSH (Illvibe Collective, SUPERDOPE, Philly). After meeting Regina “Gun$” Garcia and Dirty South Joe, she was given the chance to truly make a career out of her passion for music, and has been making her rounds in Philly ever since. As a resident at Mad Decent Monday, she has had the opportunity to play with the likes of Diplo, A Tribe Called Red, Low Budget, Bonjay, Telephoned, Cubic Zirconia, Jess Jubilee, Dirty South Joe, Flufftronix, DJ Sega, DJ Tim Dolla, and more. A known Bass Head, she has taken the Philly dubstep scene by storm, spinning dubstep in every set and playing major Philly shows with Borgore, Nit Grit and 12th Planet. Currently, she can be seen at her two weekly residencies: Mad Decent Monday at Fluid Nightclub, and Brass Knuckles at PYT every Thursday night, in the Piazza at Schmidt’s. ---Playlist--- U cheated - Deadboy

A sleeper in the Midwest, DJ MetroGnome is carrying Indianapolis on his back. Representing the school of thought that quality music deserves being in heavy rotation, you can find him at any one of his four weekly residencies dropping gems. Whether it be boom bap hip hop, dusty funk, undeniable reggae & dancehall, feel-good house, relaxing down-tempo and soul, future classics or random throwbacks from decades prior, you will find yourself moving to or inspired by the music. Having established himself as Indy’s “go-to” DJ for many of the city’s best parties, special events, concerts and countless clubs, both locally and nationally, he is always providing an outlet for the people to experience an alternative to the mundane, copy-cat ways found far too often in the nightlife and music scenes. Likewise, DJ MetroGnome has forged a strong relationship with Red Bull as the primary DJ for Indiana as well as being selected to represent the Red Bull Music Academy. Additional clients include, LRG, Budweiser, Formula 1, and the like. For additional information, you can reach out to:

Red Sky's facade is all frosted glass and angular, neon-lit sophistication. In other words, it's a do-not-cross threshold for sneaker-lovin' heads. But even scruffies need to put on a little polish every once in a while. Enter the Difference. Host Illvibe Collective has teamed up with down-tempo tuner DJ Deta to bring together all that's fresh and funky on the wheels in a slick package. Sharing its name with Illvibe's Web-hosted radio program, the Wednesday jumpoff is a mixed bag of house, acid jazz, world, funk, bossa nova and even drum 'n' bass--in other words, all that packs good vibes. DJs Statik, Skipmode and the rest are in rotation, giving those looking for a midweek break an opportunity to catch one of Illvibe's multiple personalities. Saddle up to the swank bar with dirty martini in hand and sneaker on foot, and the rest of the week looks like smooth sailing. About illvibe CollectiveSince its founding in 2000, ILLVIBE COLLECTIVE has been solidifying its eminence as Philadelphias most prolific, well-respected DJ crew. An amalgam of partyrockers and turntablists extraordinaire whose combined experience totals over a half-century, this five-man family, comprised of Statik, Panek, Phillee Blunt, Lil Dave and Skipmode, has been making an indelible mark on the Illadelph music scene, both individually and as a team. Pick your poison: dance floors, mix tapes or radio airwaves, and its guaranteed that ILLVIBE COLLECTIVE will rock em well -- with their loyal, worldwide following as co-signers. As master showmen, ILLVIBE COLLECTIVE has collaborated and shared stages with groundbreaking artists including Gang Starr, King Britt, Jazzy Jeff, Q-Bert, Cee-Lo, Les Nubians, Public Enemy, Prince Paul, The New Deal, Zap Mama, Nelly and countless others. Here at home, their unmistakable ill! turntable logo is as recognizable and omnipresent on Philadelphias nightscape as Batmans Gotham City skybeam, exemplified by the roster of successful parties and special events theyve either hosted or headlined. The appropriately titled Bodyrock, ILLVIBE COLLECTIVEs hugely popular monthly dancefest, is an undeniable fixture in the citys club community. The one major thing about all of us is that our fundamentals, as hip-hop DJs, are very strong, says Phillee. But the ILLVIBE crew never limits their music selection to any one genre. Their repetoire includes a range of Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, R&B, 80's Soul, Broken Beat, House, Afrobeat, Bossanova and Brazilian Grooves. So although theyre fundamentally rooted in hip-hop, ILLVIBE COLLECTIVE represents everything good music is, regardless of its genre: inventiveness, diversity, fearlessness, growth. And they do so not only in the records they play and vibes they create, but, more importantly, in the manner that they approach their business and expand their creative objectives. Their extensive discography includes mixtapes, promotional mixes for progressive record labels, production and scratch compositions for a diverse range of artists. The Sure Shot and The Difference, the pair of online mixshows on ILLVIBE Radio, broadcast at www.illvibe.net, offer up all the boom bap of hip-hop alongside the multi-textured sonic flavors that round out the impossible-to-categorize ILLVIBE style. Theirs is a collective that may be difficult to classify, but its definitely sure to please. -Bio Written by Sheena Lester (Former Editor of XXL & Rap Pages) FOR THE FULL VERSION OF OUR BIO, PLEASE VISIT www.illvibe.net Favorite LinksContact MeSubscribe to this Podcast![]() |
